Snowshoe Trip @ Grouse Mountain

Feb 27, 2019

On Saturday,February 23, 2019, we went to Grouse Mountain for snowshoeing activity. Grouse Mountain, located at North Vancouver, has plenty of activities to be done such as, skiing, snowboarding, skating and snowshoeing during the winter, and hiking, disc golf, grizzly bear habitat and many more during summer. We reached there at 1:45 p.m. via public transit. The weather at Vancouver was cloudy and occasional showers, but at the skyride station itself there was some snowfall going on. We got the tickets and took the skyride to the mountain, which is a 6-minute ride. As we got out of the skyride, we were amazed by the snowfall there. We met our guide for the snowshoeing trail, and he gave us some preliminary instructions. Then, we geared up by putting on the snowshoes, which was tricky for many as they were about to snowshoe for the first time. We then began walking with the snowshoes on. As the snow was fresh, it was easier for us to snowshoe, as said by the guide. We advanced ahead and went on to the bearshed, where they had two grizzly bears hibernating. The two bears are Grinder and Coola. Both are rescued orphaned bears found in 2001. They’ve been taken care of since and are a wonderful attraction during summer when they finish their hibernation. We were then taken to some light installations, which includes light walk and a reindeer. We took a group picture there. Then we were taken outside the híwus feasthouse, which is a first nations hut where Squamish first nations elder give presentations which gives insight to the deep roots of this land. Also, there were beautiful carvings on trees, which showcased their culture. We then finished our trail by going back to the start at 4 pm. We thanked our guide and then advanced to the skyride to go back.
