Nursing Professor Dr. Elizabeth Simon Is Quoted Within Exhibited Indian Artwork

Department of Nursing Professor Dr. Elizabeth Simon’s, published work is depicted in an international art exhibition which is the largest of its kind in South Asia. This fourth edition of Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2018 is taking place from December 12, 2018 – March 29, 2019 at 10 venues in Mattanchery ,Kochi, India. There are 94 artists and infra projects from 31 countries represented in the art festival. One of those artists, Nilima Sheikh with her 50 years of experience in painting with stories and figures, murals and manuscripts dedicated her art work for nurses and other health care workers at the exhibition this year.

Mrs. Sheikh researched the history of nursing in India and found Elizabeth Simon’s 2009 publication “Christianity and Nursing in India: A remarkable impact”. (Journal of Christian Nursing: April-June 2009 26 (2) 88–94). With permission, the artist quoted three paragraphs from the article in her painting. This beautiful art work is displayed on Aspinwall House, the main venue. Dr. Simon says that she is honored that this gifted artist, inspired by reading of Rabindranath Tagore, found her words through ResearchGate.
