Purpose Driven Entrepreneurship with Ron Montgomery

Dec 19, 2022

In this episode, our host John Rebecchi (M.B.A. ‘83), Ph.D. is joined by Ron “Six” Montgomery, founder of Six Juice, a health-oriented fresh juice company and a previous guest of our podcast.

When we first met Montgomery, he shared that he did not know how to run a business or have a roadmap to do so. Nevertheless, he learned to be resourceful and created the roadmap as he went along. Far from the early days when Montgomery had to make juices in a kitchen blender, you can find Six Juice in regional stores, company website and now on his storefront in Sayville, NY.

Montgomery’s products are based on an all-natural ingredient juice developed for his mother while she was fighting cancer. Thankfully since we last spoke to Montgomery in 2019, his mom has beat cancer.

In the midst of a pandemic, Montgomery knew that there are people out there who needed the help to get better and feel better. That is when Montgomery started advertising his all-natural ingredient juices on social media and drove around to deliver his products. His business experienced an overwhelmingly positive response and had sold out constantly. It wasn’t until Montgomery survived a traumatic car accident which he realizes that his business needed to pivot. The unfortunate accident led Montgomery to a new journey in opening his first storefront in Sayville, NY.

With the cost of food soaring, Montgomery puts the lean operation principles into practice. His strategy is to plan ahead, cultivate a forward-thinking mindset, build relationship with suppliers and most importantly focusing on producing quality product.

His long-range vision now for Six Juice is to expand further into franchising opportunities, distributing into school districts, hospitals, gyms, and online subscription-based delivery service to customer’s door.

The key to success for Montgomery is to fail every day. He encourages future entrepreneurs to try and fail every day. He added that the only time it is a failure is if you don’t get back up.
