Best Paper Award Granted to Dr. Ping Ke

Mar 03, 2017

Dr. Ping Ke of Accounting was granted the Best Paper Award at 2017 Annual Conference of Pan-Pacific Business Research Conference held in Cal Poly Pomona at the end of February. The PPBRC is a highly interactive business conference that provides the opportunity for participants to share their research in an interdisciplinary setting and to disseminate research findings with others in the academic and business community. The conference considered both conceptual and empirical papers in all areas of business and economics, including Accounting, Economics, Finance, Hospitality Management.

The title of the paper that won this award is “Stock Buyback and Value Maximization.” When discussing the content of the paper, Dr. Ke states, “Generally speaking, the paper made an attempt to examine why companies repurchase their stocks. By using a matched sample (firms of similar size in the same industry but did not make the repurchases), we examined if the repurchasing firms were undervalued before the repurchasing announcement and if the firms were still undervalued subsequent to actual repurchases.”
