Aspiring Entreprenuer? Need Advice? Dr. Joanne Scillitoe Offers Guidance in Recent WalletHub Article

May 10, 2017

On May 1, 2017 WalletHub published the article, “2017’s Best Large Cities to Start a Business.” In this article, WalletHub discusses the startup opportunities available in “the 150 most populated U.S. cities.” To help give Americans a better idea on how to successfully work for themselves, WalletHub asked current entrepreneurship experts to answer questions and offer advice. Dr. Joanne Scillitoe, Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship and Academic Director of the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at NYIT, was one of the entrepreneurial experts that gave hints and tips for this article.

Dr. Scillitoe answers multiple questions in the article and provides useful advice and guidance. Her advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is “find a balance between preparation and launching your venture. This could be summed up as ‘Proceed with your eyes wide open.’” Additionally, Dr. Scillitoe suggests that aspiring entrepreneurs should get involved, participate, and utilize opportunities that are available to them. As for her advice on starting a business in a big city, Dr. Scillitoe states, “Big cities are advantageous because they offer more contacts that can support, complement, or invest in new ventures. However, some networks, even in big cities are not open to all, so larger doesn’t always mean better or more opportunities.” Instead, Dr. Scillitoe suggests it is about finding the right entrepreneurial ecosystem. Read the article to gain more advice on how to become a successful entrepreneur and the
city that will help you achieve this goal!
