Dr. Deborah Y. Cohn Provides Suggestions for Celebrating Independence Day

Jul 10, 2018

Deborah Y. Cohn, Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs, Director of Professional Enrichment Program, and Associate Professor of Marketing, was recently featured in Wallethub’s “4th of July Facts and Figures” piece. In the article, Wallethub added facts on Independence Day and asked experts a series of questions about how to enjoy this holiday safely, and at the same time, get the most out of your money. Dr. Cohn was one of the experts who answered questions and gave insight into July 4th.

When asked the best way to celebrate July 4th, Dr. Cohn mentions BBQs and beach days; however, she states, “If you want to put some meaning back into the holiday, people can think about how important it is to be free, and volunteer to help people who are less fortunate.” Additionally, Dr. Cohn offers tips on how to save money during this holiday. Her suggestions include buying food for the right amount of people and considering the weather when purchasing. When it comes to buying clothes for the holiday, she suggests buying individual red, white, and blue pieces that can be worn throughout the year instead of purchasing clothes that can only be worn on that one day. As for safety, Dr. Cohn recommends leaving the fireworks to the experts.

Although the 4th of July has recently passed, Dr. Cohn’s advice and suggestions can be taken into consideration for future Independence Days and celebrations.
