Professor Kopecky Promotes STEM Education

Jun 02, 2017

In collaboration with We Connect The Dots, NYIT adjunct professor Sandra Kopecky taught at Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Syosset as a visiting professor for an AP Computer Science Principles class. We Connect The Dots is a not-for-profit organization committed to educating and inspiring the next generation of scientists, engineers, and industry leaders. For three days, Ms. Kopecky gave lessons to students on the concept of algorithms. Ms. Kopecky plans to continue working with the Computer Science teacher at the Academy, Beth Ann Randazzo, in other classes, such as HTML, web interface, and databases, in the coming year.

We Connect the Dots also hosted an event called Discovery Day at the Microsoft Technology Center in Times Square on May 4th. Sandra helped make this ambitious project a reality by facilitating the collaboration between several partners, including We Connect the Dots, high schools, and industry. Students in attendance gained valuable insight into the workings of a top corporation and how it is using science to further its own future.
