Commack High School Students Explore STEM at the New York Tech ETIC

Jan 15, 2020

On Friday, January 10th, seven Commack High School students and their teacher Michael Gargiulo attended a STEM exploration day at the Entrepreneurship and Technology Innovation Center (ETIC) at New York Tech. The students learned about Cybersecurity as a career path and participated in several hands-on cyber activities including breaking/cracking various encryption codes that were provided to them. Additionally, the students were introduced to the new ERRSELA (ETIC Research Robot for Student Engagement & Learning Activities) robotic technology and student engagement program at the ETIC. The students will now be continuing their work on ERRSELA with the ETIC remotely from their classroom back at Commack High School. The students will now be engaged in various robotic challenges that the ETIC provided them with to build their programming and software design abilities all remotely. This will be the first group of students that have come to the ETIC for a STEM tour and visit that will also continue to be connected to New York Tech via the ETIC through the ongoing remote engagement projects like ERRSELA. The ETIC has already been working remotely with the Syosset High School “Girls Who Code” club on ERRSELA for about a month now and they will be coming for an on-site visit in February to test some of their coding designs on ERRSELA.
