Urban Design studio in East Naples, Italy

Dec 05, 2018

In October 2018, NYIT graduate urban design students participated in a workshop focused on climate resilient urban design, which was the focus of our design studio during Spring 2018 Urban Climate Lab. The workshop focused on the case study of East Naples (Ponticelli) to explore integrated design strategies for creating sustainable and resilient communities that can adapt and thrive in the changing global conditions, meet carbon-reduction goals, provide new public spaces and facilities in relation to community priorities, by configuring or retrofitting compact and mixed-use eco-districts. The proposed design method is process-oriented and focuses on sequential and iterative steps bringing to projects’ implementation through a multi-disciplinary and multi-scale approach.

The workshop was included within a wider event which took place at the Department of Architecture of University Federico II Environmental Design for Climate Change Adaptation: Prefiguring transition models for urban districts. Our students collaborated with students from universities from Europe and South America, including Université Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée,Politecnico di Milano University and University Federico II.
