Spotlight: MAURD Student Internships

Ankita Gupta is interning at Perkins Eastman’s New York City office. Gupta works under direction of the master planning team, which focuses on integrating the design of buildings and open space. She is working on master planning projects and applying her urban design skills and landscape architecture background to further enhance the project team’s capacity.

Hebatallah Elgawish secured an internship with the Department of Planning and Development at the Bronx Borough President Office. Elgawish updates a database of brownfield projects in TheBronx, reviews notifications from NY State Department of Environmental Conservation and NY City Office of Environmental Remediation, augments information from developers to establish a comprehensive description of redevelopment projects, and is creating a Geographic Information System (GIS) generated map of Brownfield Sites in The Bronx. Furthermore, Elgawish is developing a report of the economic impact of Brownfield Redevelopment.

Shiva Ghomi is interning at the New York Department of City Planning (DCP), Urban Design Division. Ghomi’s DCP work ranges from data collection and research to organizing materials for presentations to the community and the City Planning Commission. She prepares maps and planning reports and produces sketches and renderings. Additionally, Ghomi helps produce materials to generate public interest and planning participation.

Vanashree Kamani was selected for an internship with Kushner Studios Architecture + Design, P.C. She works on a housing project by preparing 3D models and presentation drawings. Kamani produces DOB applications and design documents for ongoing projects. Additionally, Kamani conducts research on project architectural materials and methods, and prepares project reports.

Gina Touchan has begun her internship at SBS Small Business Services- Waterfront Permit Unit where she performs a number of management and applications tasks, from application to review. Touchan contributes to computer mapping, GIS analysis, zoning analyses, and building code review.

Rhoda Tsado secured an internship at Design for Risk & Reconstruction Committee (DfRR) which comprises of a group of design professionals based at the American Institute of Architects’ (AIA) New York chapter. Tsado works directly with DfRR leadership to pursue committee goals, coordinates community outreach, expands their media campaign, and develops events, via the platform Capelin Communications.
