iFLY STEM Program: A Dynamic Fusion of Science and Adventure
The day kicked off with an interactive dive into the science behind iFLY’s state-of-the-art wind tunnel technology. The team at iFLY broke down the core concepts of physics, airflow dynamics, and terminal velocity, translating textbook theories into something tangible and accessible.
Students then took part in a hands-on lab exercise, engaging in real-world applications of physics. They calculated dynamics, applied equations, and predicted forces in action – diving deeper into the fascinating science of flight. iFLY’s STEM program transform theoretical exercises into a collaborative and problem-solving experiences, challenging students to connect their knowledge with practical applications.
Of course, no trip to iFLY would be complete without some action. Students suited up, and each had the chance to step into the vertical wind tunnel, experiencing the sensation of floating midair. Floating weightlessly, they got a literal "lift" – a thrilling conclusion to an inspiring day that demonstrated just how far STEM can take you... or, in this case, lift you right off the ground!
This trip was made possible through our KEEN Partnership and their Engineering Unleashed initiative. New York Tech’s College of Engineering & Computing Sciences is proud to be a member of KEEN, the Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Network—a national coalition of engineering faculty and staff committed to fostering innovation in engineering education for the betterment of society.
