Engineers Week 2025: A Celebration of Innovation and Community
Last week, the College of Engineering and Computing Sciences (CoECS) came alive with energy, creativity, and collaboration as students came together to celebrate Engineers Week 2025. Held across both the Long Island and New York City campuses, this year’s theme—Design Your Future—highlighted the importance of innovation, diversity, and forward-thinking in engineering.
From showcasing incredible talents to hands-on workshops, Engineers Week reinforced the role engineers play in shaping the world around us.
Building Connections, Building the Future
The week kicked off with a series of interactive sessions designed to engage students at all levels. The United Engineering clubs welcomed students to explore their latest projects, discuss shared interests, and find new ways to get involved. Whether it was robotics, sustainability, or aerospace, there was something for everyone.
“I really enjoyed getting to know everyone better. Joining a United Engineering student club teaches you how to communicate and grow professionally — it’s something I’d definitely recommend.” — Yael Mendez, B.S. Computer Science, First-Year Student
In addition to club showcases, students put their skills to the test at the 3D Print Challenge, where creativity met engineering as participants designed custom models. The crowd favorite and honorable mentions were brought to life through 3D printing, giving students a tangible reward for their ingenuity.
“It was confusing at first, but learning as you go is part of the process — and that’s fun.” — Nicolette Medford, B.S. Computer Science, First-Year Student
Career Development
For those looking to sharpen their professional edge, the Resume Workshop and Mastering HANDSHAKE session offered key insights into career development. Students learned how to craft strong resumes, navigate job opportunities, and connect with potential employers.
“It’s different times we’re living in. We’re trying to help everyone keep up with the times.” — Michael Ridley, B.S. Biotechnology, Fourth-Year Student & NSBE Senator
These sessions emphasized the importance of presenting oneself effectively in an increasingly competitive job market.
Exploring New Frontiers in Engineering
The Entrepreneurship & Technology Innovation Center (ETIC) opened its doors for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at ongoing projects, including robotics research, NASA collaborations, and corporate prototyping. Visitors had the chance to interact with Baxter, the collaborative robot, and learn how emerging technologies are being applied in real-world scenarios.
Meanwhile, the IEEE Electronics Jam provided an immersive experience in circuit prototyping, microcontroller programming, and embedded systems. Armed with tools like oscilloscopes, FPGA boards, and Arduino kits, students worked on projects ranging from simple circuits to more complex electronic systems, making it one of the most hands-on events of the week.
As Dean Babak Beheshti reflected on the week’s events, he emphasized the broader impact of engineering:
“This annual celebration honors the incredible impact engineers have on shaping our world, from driving technological advancements to solving global challenges. It’s an opportunity to recognize the profession, engage with peers, and explore the exciting possibilities within engineering.”
As the field of engineering continues to evolve, one thing remains clear: New York Tech students are more than ready to design the future.
Until next year, keep building, keep innovating, and keep pushing boundaries!
