The CoECS D-EAB is committed to the advancement of the college, and this scholarship is tangible evidence of their commitment to the success of our students.
The Dean’s Office selected the recipients based upon their achievements in the following areas:
- Outstanding leadership/participation in school activities (especially within the CoECS) and community
- service
- Outstanding performance in coursework
- Engagement in undergraduate research
- Engagement in peer-tutoring
- An appreciation of personal growth and opportunities from higher education
- Critical and creative thinking
- Effective communication
- A commitment to the values of justice and caring
Selection will be made based upon review of the following Scholarship Request Form, with particular emphasis placed on the personal statement and the professor’s recommendation. These should address the areas that applicants would have liked to be considered during the evaluation. Academic achievement was considered in all three scholarships, as well.
The scholarship recipients express their gratitude for the scholarship, and the impact New York Institute of Technology has had on their academic career.
Receiving the Deans Recognition Scholarship motivates me to maintain my GPA and focus on
my education. This scholarship allows me to work fewer hours and focus on additional
educational opportunities.

The school NYIT has given me the opportunity to explore my interests and learn new skills.
I found out about this school from ECC in Highschool of Sports Management. At first, I was
reluctant to join since it was a private school with a large tuition price. So this scholarship
means a lot to me and my family.
Guang Wei, Computer Science ‘24
Words cannot describe how grateful my family and I are for your generosity. We
have been going through a rough patch financially, so this scholarship was huge for
us. As far as why I chose NYIT, NYIT has always had a special place in my heart. My
older sister, Yara Mourtada, got her bachelor’s degree in Architecture from NYIT in
2017. Although I’ll never tell her this, I have always looked up to my sister. She
loved NYIT and had so many great things to say about it. After hearing that from my
sister and doing my own research, I knew NYIT was the university for me.
Hussein-Ali Mourtada, Electrical and Computer Engineering ‘23
This scholarship brings hope to both me and my family. It encourages me to work even
harder to not only make myself and my family proud but also make NYIT proud because it is
a big impact on my academic journey… I chose NYIT because of its outstanding engineering program that is one of the best in the
region, the city played a huge role as well in addition to a good scholarship package.
I love the school because it welcomes everyone regardless of their race, origin, and religion. I
felt at home when I first joined the school and that is what any student would want.
Jonan Manzi, Electrical and Computer Engineering ‘25
This scholarship will help me cover costs such as MetroCard(s) because most or all my
courses for the following semester will be on the Manhattan campus. NYIT has pushed
me to strive for higher grades with the caring staff and professors who helped me
throughout every step, especially throughout the pandemic. Being a part of NYIT has
helped me grow as an individual and a visionary because of the exposure to such a large
variety of clubs, activities, internships, and events.
Mohammad Ishtiaq, Computer Science ‘24
