CoECS and POLIMI Forge New Paths in Student Exchange

Since its launch in 2019, this pioneering initiative between New York Tech and Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI) has blossomed into a vibrant partnership. The Erasmus+ KA107 student exchange program, with the College of Engineering and Computing Sciences (CoECS), promotes not only academic excellence but also transformative cultural enrichment for both students and faculty alike.
Financial Support for Global Opportunities
Thanks to the Erasmus+ grant, the program is accessible to a diverse range of students, offering the opportunity to spend an entire semester studying abroad at either New York Tech or POLIMI.
The comprehensive funding covers travel expenses and provides a semester-long living stipend, alleviating financial barriers. This support enables participants to fully immerse themselves in both their academic pursuits and cultural experiences, fostering a truly global education.
Exciting Exchanges: A Journey of Growth
Over the past few years, students have made remarkable strides through this exchange:
- In Fall 2021, POLIMI students Piergiorgio Scatigna and Laura Mora Dal Verme spent an entire semester at New York Tech, conducting research on energy management and green building practices at CoECS’s EnTech Lab. Their impactful work led to a co-authored journal paper, showcasing the program’s emphasis on high-caliber research.
- In Spring 2022, New York Tech students Nikhil Ramesh Vatyani and Nandita Singh explored Italy’s rich culture while advancing their Computer Science studies at POLIMI.
- This past Spring 2024, Edwin Barrera traveled to Milan to pursue courses in Computer Science, while CoECS welcomed Mattia Bosio to New York, where he deepened his academic pursuits in Computer Science and Construction Management through this enriching exchange.
- The excitement continues in Spring 2025, as POLIMI student Ilaria Compagnoni prepares to embark on her exchange journey, joining us at New York Tech. Meanwhile, Michelle Arwa, a CoECS Energy Management student, will head to POLIMI—both students further enhancing their academic knowledge in engineering and technology while fostering lasting friendships and cultural understanding.
A Bright Future
As the next round of funding approaches in early 2025 for the 2025-2026 academic year, this initiative stands as a testament to New York Tech and POLIMI’s commitment to inclusive, globally-minded education. Together, they are building bridges across cultures, fostering innovation, and inspiring the next generation of leaders.
This partnership showcases the significant role CoECS plays in shaping the future of engineering and technology on a global scale—creating scholars and unlocking boundless opportunities.
"Studying in America has always been a dream of mine, and the opportunity to participate in the exchange program with New York Tech was one I couldn’t pass up. The academic environment was a refreshing change—smaller class sizes and flexible schedules allowed me to balance my studies and personal interests. My favorite experience was the Senior Design Project course, where I collaborated on a comprehensive project that was both challenging and rewarding.... Living in New York broadened my perspective, introducing me to diverse cultures and ways of life. I built strong connections, from my roommates to classmates in the Alternative Energy Systems course. Being on my own in a new country taught me responsibility and independence, shaping me both personally and professionally..... To anyone considering an exchange program, I wholeheartedly recommend it. It’s a transformative journey that opens doors to new cultures, friendships, and perspectives." — Mattia Bosio, POLIMI student
