The SHINE championship belt was on the line as LuFisto battled Su Yang at the World Wrestling Network’s & SHINE Wrestling’s SHINE 51 on Saturday June 9th in Queens NY. Dr. Matthew Heller, faculty associate in the NYIT Center for Sports Medicine and assistant professor in the Department of Family Medicine, provided on-site medical coverage for these talented professional wrestlers.“These wrestlers come from all over the country to put on these shows” said Dr. Heller. Dr. Heller was accompanied by a NYITCOM medical student who helped provide care for the athletes as well as the staff and officials.

Dr. Heller is currently researching the effects of repeat head injuries in collegiate athletes.
