My name is Justin Santiago and I’m currently in my third year as a Graphic Design major at NYIT. My main interests besides graphic design include a love for learning about and making art, listening to/creating music, and sometimes experimental film.
I’ve lived all of my life in New York, but although I’ve lived most of my life in the suburbs, a lot of the imagery in my work whether personal or professional has been heavily inspired by my experiences being in New York City especially since I started attending college.
My imagery has also been inspired by various modern visual styles, namely by that of Pop Art, and typography by Herb Lubalin and Massimo Vignelli. Another source of inspiration for me is how various designers have brought music to life via advertising campaigns and visual art which is something I would love to pursue down the line in my career. The visual design and album artwork of The Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, Cassius, and their associated acts have been a particular influence.
It’s through this that I’ve managed to design various logos, album art, posters, and promotional material for smaller artists. A lot of my biggest influences in design have also gotten their start that way as well in advertising and visual material before moving upward so it’s really motivating for me.
Some of these designs I’ve made are set to be printed and distributed in physical mediums by next year, but it would be a dream to do this on a more widespread/professional scale! Even if music itself has influenced my design and is a preferred focus, it’s opened up an interest in marketing and advertising that I’d love to take on in my career in other areas.
