Emily Collins
My name is Emily Collins, and I am a freshman majoring in Graphic Design at NYIT. I was born and raised in central Iowa, but I attended a boarding school in southern Minnesota.
I started learning Adobe Photoshop in 5th grade for an art class project. My project, called “The Human Oven”, which was a photoshopped image of my friends in a cupcake tin inside of a burning oven, ended up winning a state award. Ever since then, I knew I wanted to pursue art as a career.
Last year during my senior year of high school, I interned with Last Chance for Animals, a non-profit organization based in Los Angeles. I created posters for their social media sites and for some of their protesting events. During my senior year, I also designed a spread for my high schools alumni magazine about a woman’s leadership summit I was chosen to attend through my school.
Although my main interest is graphic and digital design, I also enjoy digital photography, film photography, special effects makeup, sewing, film, writing and music. I am always looking to expand my creative toolbox and try new things.
