Rebecca Lorenz Appointed Senior Research Fellow for 2024-2025 Academic Year

Nov 20, 2024

The Center for Offsite Construction is excited to announce the appointment of Rebecca Lorenz, Registered Architect and industry expert in Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA), as a Senior Research Fellow for the 2024-2025 academic year. With a background in technical architectural design, custom fabrication, and interior finished systems, Rebecca’s expertise is crucial for advancing the integration of innovative construction methodologies into offsite manufacturing processes.

Rebecca’s career spans over a decade, marked by leadership roles in high-profile projects and contributions to the development of advanced construction systems. As the Director of Research & Development at Assembly OSM, Rebecca played a key role in designing architectural systems and developing methodologies for tracking and measuring design success. Her experience includes pioneering the first architectural systems at Assembly OSM, where she successfully led technical design teams and coordinated performance testing for sub-assemblies.

Previously, as a Senior Associate at SHoP Architects, Rebecca demonstrated her expertise in managing complex projects like the Botswana Innovation Hub and Rocket Mortgage Arena. She led the design and coordination of custom façade systems, collaborating with engineers, manufacturers, and construction teams across multiple continents. Her work in virtual design and construction has been instrumental in enhancing the quality and precision of fabrication processes, helping bridge the gap between architectural design and manufacturing.

As an adjunct professor at New York Institute of Technology, Rebecca has shared her knowledge of modern construction technologies, focusing on the principles of DfMA and the integration of fabrication methods into architectural practice. Her teaching emphasizes the importance of supply chain, logistics, and transportation in design processes.

Rebecca’s research and expertise will significantly contribute to the Center for Offsite Construction’s initiatives to further develop offsite manufacturing practices and modular construction techniques.
