Kingbun Lau wins the Long Island Chapter Institute of Internal Auditors Case Competition

May 16, 2017

Kingbun Lau, a current M.B.A student, recently won the Long Island Chapter Institute of Internal Auditors Case Competition. Students from over 10 accredited Long Island based universities and colleges participated in the inaugural contest on the famous Roslyn School District fraud case. The students who participated were asked to provide written internal auditing advice based on a real-world fraud case. The competition was open to students majoring in information technology, business, finance and/or accounting, and contestants had the opportunity to interview the Assistant Superintendent of Business at the Roslyn School District. The Institute’s Academic Relations Committee in Long Island selected the five student winners. King Lau, an M.B.A student representing NYIT School of Management, was one of the winners.

King attributed his success in this highly competitive contest to the outstanding accounting department faculty at NYIT. He states, “I feel that my ability to effectively apply accounting and auditing concepts that I learned from Professor Peter Harris’ lectures contributed to my success.” A $1,000 scholarship was offered to each winner.

The goal of the contest was to raise awareness of the importance of the internal auditing profession for organizations of all sizes. After winning the competition, King was invited to a luncheon where he met with the Institute’s board members and officers and learned more about the internal auditing profession. In fact, the current president of the Institute’s Long Island Chapter, Ms. Ellen Caravella, CPA/CIA, is also an NYIT alumni.

King is very grateful for this opportunity, and he thanks the high-caliber accounting and auditing professionals that NYIT School of Management produces for his success.
