Sara Torrelko Named Senior Research Fellow for 2024-2025 Academic Year
The Center for Offsite Construction is honored to welcome Sara Torrelko as a Senior Research Fellow for the 2024-2025 academic year. With over 15 years of experience spanning architecture, engineering, and modular innovation, Sara has established a reputation as a leader in industrialized construction and product design. Sara's extensive expertise and a visionary approach will be instrumental in advancing the Center’s mission to redefine modular construction practices.
Sara co-founded Modutize in 2024 to develop cutting-edge building systems with a focus on interoperability and design for manufacturing and assembly (DfMA). Additionally, Torrelko founded Torrelko Architecture + Product Design, merging architectural and product innovation. Previous roles include Director of Product Design at Volumetric Building Companies, where Sara led a global team creating transformative modular systems. Significant contributions at Factory OS and RAD Urban further solidified a reputation as an expert in modular building standards, project coordination, and preconstruction workflows.
A graduate of UC Berkeley with a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Sara began a career designing educational and laboratory facilities. A passion for blending product design and architecture inspired a transition into industrialized construction. In 2022, Sara earned an MBA from UC Davis, equipping them to navigate the intersection of design, technology, and business strategy.

At the Center, Sara’s work will focus on advancing Modular 2.0 technologies, particularly product platforms and standardized interfaces. Efforts aim to address industry challenges, foster collaboration, and promote the adoption of best practices in offsite construction.
