College of Engineering and Computing Sciences Welcomes Exchange Students from Italy

Mar 02, 2021

Two graduate students from Politecnico Di Milano (POLIMI), located in Milan, Italy, have been accepted as exchange students at New York Tech and will remotely attend the College of Engineering and Computing Sciences course “High-Performance Building Envelopes” during the Spring 2021 semester. This course is part of the Department of Energy Management and will be instructed by Assistant Professor and director of the Energy and Green Technologies Lab, Ehsan Kamel, Ph.D.

Dr. Kamel has created opportunities for the New York based and Milan based students to collaborate on different computer modeling and simulation projects focused on high-performance and energy-efficient buildings. This program also provides the opportunity for POLIMI and New York Tech’s faculty members to co-mentor graduate students’ master’s thesis and perform joint research activities. In the first round, Dr. Kamel will co-mentor a graduate student, which will lead to co-authoring journal publications with POLIMI’s faculty members.

“This is an exciting adaptation of our international mobility program in the times of pandemic. This virtual exchange brings with it a discussion of ideas and discourse between the graduate students from the two continents in the classroom.” says Babak D. Beheshti, Ph.D., dean of NYIT College of Engineering and Computing Sciences.

“This is an excellent opportunity for faculty members and graduate students from two countries to exchange experiences. This program expands and diversifies our curriculum and brings more expertise and skillsets to New York Tech and POLIMI’s research projects,” says Dr. Kamel.

This opportunity was made possible as part of the Erasmus+ KA107 student/scholar exchange program between the College of Engineering and Computing Sciences at New York Institute of Technology and Politecnico Di Milano (POLIMI).
