Celebrating Engineers Week 2024 at New York Tech

Feb 27, 2024

Celebrating Engineers Week 2024 at New York Tech offered an exhilarating journey into the world of engineering and technology, featuring a range of activities and events that showcased the brilliance and creativity of our students. This year’s theme — Welcome to the Future — is about celebrating today's achievements and paving the way for a brighter and more diverse future in engineering.

Hosted at both the Long Island and New York City campuses, students were invited to come together and delve into a world of technological wonders! The following are only a few of the events hosted this year:

Commencing Engineers Week 2024: The week of celebration began with a delightful lunch and an engaging discussion with our distinguished faculty. We also hosted a raffle draw, where E.R.R.S.E.L.A. helped in selecting the lucky winners!

  • Dean Babak Beheshti welcomed students to Engineers Week, emphasizing the importance of celebrating today's achievements that shape the future. He highlighted engineers' pivotal role in shaping the future landscape and addressing global challenges, with examples like space exploration and energy solutions.
  • Prof. Maherukh Akhtar discussed Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and Artificial Intelligence, stressing their potential benefits while cautioning students about their responsible usage. She provided a QR code for an Augmented Reality beach experience as an illustrative example.
  • Dr. James Scire detailed engine testing methodologies, drawing from his experience with fighter jets, including optical sensor-based combustion instability detection. He highlighted a specific engine pyrometry test that led to grants for CoECS.

Unity Game Engine Workshop: Crafting Digital Adventures
Presented by the United Engineering Clubs, this exclusive Unity Game Engine Workshop allowed participants to explore the intricacies of game development by creating a space-themed game using Unity, a cross-platform game development engine.

Innovation Unleashed: The Makers Station
The Makers Station showcased students' projects that embodied the spirit of exploration and ingenuity, featuring live 3D printing demonstrations and cutting-edge technology shaping the future.

E.R.R.S.E.L.A.: Navigating the Frontiers of Technology
Attendees at the Long Island campus had the opportunity to meet E.R.R.S.E.L.A. – the ETIC Research Robot for Student Engagement & Learning Activities, exploring realms of NASA programs, robotics, YouTube, corporate prototyping, and the enlightening iNTEREST Lecture Series.

Master the Machines: Exclusive Workshops at the Machine Shop
Individuals embarked on a journey of skill acquisition at the Machine Shop, with hands-on workshops covering welding, milling, band saw, lathe, drill press, laser engraving, 3D printing, and CNC machining.

Cyber and AIthe good and the bad "& the ugly"
Attendees explored the AI revolution and its impact on the business world with a presentation from Mr. Kiran Bhujle, Cybersecurity Leader at SVAM International Inc. Bhujle unraveled the intricacies of AI and provided valuable insights into the ever-evolving landscape of technology.

Tech Fun Night: Debugging Event by SWE-NYC
Attendees geared up for an exhilarating night of tech fun at the Debugging Event, enjoying a friendly coding competition in Java, Python, and Matlab, alongside food, drinks, and camaraderie.

Engineers Week at the College of Engineering and Computing Sciences was more than just a series of events; it was a celebration of innovation, collaboration, and the boundless possibilities within the realm of engineering. Attendees didn't miss their chance to be part of this inspiring journey!
