Winter is supposed to be cold, mild, and snowy, yeah right. The winters we know sway between random spring-like warmth and freezing cold. We’ll help you dress for the Global Weirding.
We’re well into the winter weeks, but we do wonder: what will I wear with all this wacky weaving of warm and wintry weather? Well, asking in alliteration doesn’t alleviate anything, does it? We’ve all busted out the heavy winter jackets only to realize certain things. For example, a winter jacket is not something to wear during random and unseasonable bouts of warmth. For that matter, it’s worse on a long subway commute.
The solution is simple, and it isn’t really news: extra layers, people! I occasionally see a guy strolling around with only a hoodie to cover their torso, and it perplexes me. You can easily wear your winter jacket over it and have the best of both worlds. Don’t fret covering your hoodie because it visibly hangs out the back of the collar; you can show off its cool pattern, which is always a reflection of your individual style. This is a good way to let it peak out from the cover of a humdrum winter coat. It also serves as a safety for those days when you don’t know whether it will rain or snow.
If you’re still finding yourself feeling a bit too cold, then you should invest in some sweaters and thermals for some extra layers. Believe it or not, those plain old sweaters that grandma gives you will come in handy here, as long as it’s not some kind of atrocity with something “cute” crocheted near the collar; go for any kind of argyle. It’s rather conservative looking, but you can always go wild with the color.
When dressing for these wild winters, you will have to consider what’s more important: function or style? At this point, most people are leaning more towards function and covering themselves with dark overcoats. Yet, you can still express yourselves and let it come through with subtle details like a hoodie. Remember, you always have to plan what goes under that coat, so make sure to layer!
