Admin to SPA: Crest Logo Un-BEAR-able
When it comes to logos, one bear must fit all.Christina OddoChronicle Staff WriterI’m sure you have noticed by now that the Student Activities Building is different from last semester, but what else has changed? Well for one, goodbye Student Entertainment Council and hello Student Programming Association! The Student Entertainment Council was formed for students who want to work together and create various events and activities for the school community to be a part of. During the summer, administration asked the members of SEC to come up with a name that better suited their purpose. The members came together to brainstorm ideas and researched other schools’ organizations names. When they all voted, the majority chose the name Student Programming Association (SPA).Many of the NYIT clubs have been trying to associate the school’s mascot, the bear, into their logos. SPA decided a new name was a good start, why not a new logo? This new logo would help promote and mark the organization’s new beginning. However, it would not be so simple. The crest, with the bear, was introduced to several administration members “weeks before classes began”, one member tells the Chronicle. It was not until shortly before classes began that the members were told that the bear they were using on the logo was not the “official” bear endorsed by the school, and had to be changed. To make the matter a bit worse, SPA had already ordered the organization’s promotional items, which were marked with the original designed crest and “unofficial” bear.
