Letter from the President

Edward Guiliano, Ph.DGuest WriterGreetings. It’s my pleasure to welcome you to NYIT and the opening of the fall 2007 semester. For all of us, whether a first-time or returning student or a faculty or staff member, this is an exciting and exhilarating time of year. Enjoy it…pretty soon the necessary hard work we all face will evoke a somewhat different tenor to the academic year, yet one that can make us feel good as well, especially as we look back on our achievements.Academically, you are at an NYIT that is as strong as it has ever been. I am pleased to report that in the just-released annual U.S. News & World Report , NYIT has retained its top-tier ranking among some of the finest institutions of higher learning in the nation. Over the spring and summer, we concluded national searches and have hired many outstanding new full-time faculty to help us deliver on our mission of providing exceptional career-oriented professional education. Our image and reputation grow wider and better each year. The NYIT Web site, our biggest conduit to an increasingly smaller world, will reflect a major architectural and design overhaul. You will be greeted this semester by various enhancements to our learning platforms inside and outside the classroom, and during the fall and spring you will continue to see upgrades to our already fine computers, software, and equipment. We also have been busy over the past year redoubling our commitment to being a student-centered university and offering you the tools you need to succeed here at NYIT’s Manhattan campus and beyond. Last spring, we opened a new enrollment services area on the first floor of the New Technology Building. Staffed by our Student Solution Center team, it is our way to make your life easier. We’ve combined the bursar, financial aid, registration, and admissions offices into a one-stop shop that will service all your needs. We added space to our campus last spring for enrollment services and for additional architectural studios and student space. This fall we have added additional office space at a new West 61 st Street location.I am also pleased to see the efforts of NYIT Food Services, whose grab-and-go kiosk in the 1849 building has just opened. This is just the beginning of a better dining facility on campus, and plans toward that end are moving quickly.Several enhancements made by NYIT’s Office of Student Affairs also will benefit you directly, including improvements to our Office of Career Services, which now has a larger staff devoted to internships and career searches. Whether you are a first-time student or are graduating this fall, I encourage you to stop by the career services office. For those of you returning, you will notice other changes—upgrades to the Office of Counseling and Wellness, as well as the introduction of a Latino fraternity and Latina sorority. Please take advantage of the many academic and personal counseling resources as well as student activities available to you.
