It’s never too late, either.

So you’re a senior. You’ve gotten through three years of college by drinking, partying, and sometimes doing homework. Maybe you never even thought about life after college. Heck, you’ve never even thought about life after lunch.

If this sounds like you: wake up. Unlike the freshmen, seniors should already have a good understanding of what they want to after they leave NYIT. After all, graduation is only eight months away. Now, if you don’t have even the slightest clue about what comes after graduation, don’t panic: there is still time to get your act together. Follow these few steps and you’ll be in better shape.

Think

You don’t have as much time to do an in depth self-evaluation, but you should still have a good idea about what you enjoy doing. By now you’re probably settled into your major, and you should have some idea as to what careers in that field will entail. Take some time to think about whether you enjoy those things or not.

Polish that resume

Hopefully worked at least one internship while in college. But even if you didn’t, get your resume up to date. If you haven’t worked an internship, highlight your GPA or any clubs you participated in.

Transfer those skills

You may not think that there was much you could have taken from your work study jobs, but the organizational skills that you developed while working there could be useful to a potential employer. The key is identifying your transferable skills, skills that will be useful no matter where you work.

Head to Career Services, Stat

This is something you probably should have done a long time ago. The folks at the Career Services department often hold job expos and career fairs, which are great ways for you to practice your interview skills and meet potential employers.
